Can you believe it?
Postage to go up — again — on May 12, 2008.Monday afternoon while I was in the PO I heard a lady getting rolls of one cent stamps to go on postcards because of an increase. The funny thing is the postal worker didn’t seem to know about it…. but sold her the stamps anyway.
Got into a coughing jag so I woke up and am still puttering online and looking at my Hawaii and Norway photos. Great entertainment when you can’t sleep…. the photos especially.
I happened by this article I hyperlinked to above. The price increase was announced and article posted yesterday, Feb 11. (Maybe that’s why the postal worker didn’t seem to know.) Sure enough, the postal prices are going up May 12, 2008. 1 cent for First Class bringing it to 42 cents, etc. Learned yesterday that the extra (second) ounce changed to 17 cents from the usual same price as the postcard stamp. (I’ve been very slow to catch on to that and have slapped on an occasional, extra postcard stamp this year. Oh, well, help out the USPS.) The postal worker told me that happened last May when there was the last change. The 17 cent price will stay the same. International mail will go from 90 cents to 94 cents. (Not complaining as I had to pay equivalent to $1.75 to send a regular size postcard from Norway to the US in 2006.) I got a few international stamps yesterday as it seems to be so hard for me to get to the PO to get stamps to send stuff to my Norway cousins and genealogy friend. It would also be nice to surprise one of our missionaries once in a while. Say, a letter/card other than Christmas would really be a surprise. I guess if I would have made a New Year’s resolution this year (I don’t very often.) it would be to stay in better contact with the missionaries we support. Thankful for email and blogs, but there’s just something about snail mail that surprises me and warms my heart. That person took the time to not only think of me, but also to mail me something. Hmm, reminds me. Since yesterday afternoon I bought some Valentines to mail, I better get at it so I can get them mailed early in this day. People we know are often 3 days away via mail. But maybe some sleep first would be in order.
Note: I am feeling much better and the swelling of my salivary gland is almost all gone. Had a very good visit with my doctor Monday afternoon. Dr Saldivar is such a good guy. He answers my questions with such patient expertise. And he has the art of not making me feel weird for asking the questions I have. Inquiring minds want to know, you know. And I wasn’t finding it on the internet! Will report that info soon. (See toomanyhats, not everyone thinks/treats me like I’m weird. It’s not just about the sherbet float, she thought I’d lost it when I decided to post a festive blog of ’double nickels’ in different fonts. Well, I eventually explained it’s a teasing thing in my extended family when you turn 55. Hey, it beats the alternative!! I better go back to sleep before toomanyhats finds out I’m up and harrassing her.)

Wow! another increase??
Blogging just does provide therapy for you, doesn’t it! Thanks for the fun. . . Glad you are better. Healing requires rest. . .lots of it! “Restored wholeness” it is called. Works in the spiritual realm as well. . . rest, that is.
Thanks for the info on the rate increase! Love the hydrangea photos.
